One of the many reasons to go on vacation is to do things you never get the chance to do. Other reasons, of course, include relaxing, exploring a new place/revisiting a favorite place, enjoying the outdoors, and for some … to feel like a kid again.
We know a really good way to accomplish all of these things in one fell swoop: rent a bike and explore Hilton Head Island!
With 2,000 new cruisers, we have plenty of sizes for the whole family: from bikes for Mom and Dad, down to 16” kid cruisers with training wheels.
Fat tire bikes are a great choice for cruising along the beach. The oversized tires on these bikes make them easy to handle even on the soft sand!
Ever heard of a Zike Bike? This cool ride is kind of like a stand-up bike, or an elliptical machine on wheels, or a scooter with pedals. You have to see it to believe it. And of course, you must try it out. You won’t believe the speed.
For little ones, we can put a child seat on the back of an adult bike. Perfect for children 1 ½ years up to 40 pounds to enjoy the ride while Mom or Dad does all the work. There’s also the Kiddie Cart, which attaches to an adult beach cruiser and holds two kiddies (85-pound max).
If your child loves to bike, but you’re a little worried he or she might not be able to keep up, consider the Tag-a-long bike. This “bicycle made for two” involves attaching a separate one-wheeled bike to an adult beach cruiser.
No matter what your ride is, don’t forget the helmet! We want you to be safe riding your bike so be sure to fit the whole family for helmets. Hilton Head Outfitters rents helmets for all ages and sizes.
Not ready for your vacation to end? Hmm. How about taking a bike home as a souvenir? It will be something you can use all the time and you won’t have to dust it off, unless you hit a dusty trail, that is! Totally justifiable. We have a great selection of bikes for sale and can help you select a bike to take home with you, as well as a bike rack, accessories (bells, baskets, lights, helmets) and more.
Now that you have the equipment (and a useful map of the bike trails within Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort), get on out there and have a great time!
