Hilton Head Outfitters Island Adventure Blog

Fat Tire BikesWith more than 12 miles of beach on Hilton Head Island and perfect weather most of the year for outdoor activity, we think this is the perfect place to bike. However, if you’ve ever tried to ride a bicycle on soft sand, you know it’s easier said than done. Enter: fat tire bikes.

At Hilton Head Outfitters, we wanted to make sure you could enjoy all of our beautiful Hilton Head beaches by bike, so we added a special type of bike to our line-up. Fat tire bikes are designed with larger, “fatter” tires to make it easier to bike on soft sand. Way easier…!

Made by Tommisea Bicycles, we offer the single speed fat sand cruisers for rent. They come with 26-inch wide by 4.8 inch high wheels (the largest and fattest tire in the market!) that “float” on the sand, keeping you from wasting excess energy trying to spin the wheels. It gets exhausting fast! We think you’ll enjoy riding these bikes in Hilton Head, as they are extremely comfortable, stable and fun.

Our fat tire, or fat sand, bikes are also designed to weather the salt water and salty air so they’ll last in beach conditions. They also come with holders for your water bottles, a kickstand and padded seating with springs. We also rent bike helmets for kids and adults to ensure everyone is safe when biking on Hilton Head.

If you like your fat tire bike that you rent from Hilton Head Outfitters, you may want to take one home and we’ll be happy to place a special order for you. Fat tire bikes work on all terrains and in conditions such as snow or any other sort of rough terrain, so they may be handy at home, too.

Check out our fat tire Hilton Head bike rentals, as well as our other selection of bikes from cruisers and tandems to kiddie bikes and more! We love biking on the beach, and we think with fat tire bikes, you will too!
